After a breathtaking drive to Kommetjie, we arrived at this gorgeous timber framed house in the Klein Slangkop Private Estate. It is surrounded by an indigenous garden and the sounds of birds and chirping cicada's filling the air.
Alison was there to welcome us and show us around the house giving us all the tips & tricks that we would require. She asked us to open up all the doors in the morning as this was a house that needed to "breathe". The house got a lot of fresh air but still felt very warm and comforting. There was a lovely message written on the board and a welcome pack (including fruit, a bottle of wine, some crisps & a magazine) in the kitchen welcoming us. Also, we each had a chocolate left on the bedside table. These were some of the small touches that made us feel totally at home.
It is a pity that we did not record the look on each lady's face as they came into the house and was blown away by its gorgeousness. The house feels light and bright, decorated liberally with sea shells and the occasional bright sparks of colour.
We were fortunate enough to have the WHOLE house (Oyster Catcher & Chapmans Peak) to ourselves. We used all the bedrooms but only used the Oyster Catcher's living areas. Chapmans Peak has 1 ensuite room upstairs and a small bathroom, kitchen & lounge downstairs. The lounge has a TV and a sleeper couch. Outside there is a small braai area, outside shower and access to the pool.
Oyster Catcher has an ensuite room upstairs, 2 bedrooms downstairs that share a bathroom, a conservatory, a lounge and a kitchen. Outside is a deck with an outside table, braai area and access to the pool.
The views were spectacular, even from lying in the splendidly large bath tubs, you could view the sea or the indigenous garden, depending on which one you used.
The house is beautifully decorated with lots of attention to detail. The rooms are spacious, warm and comfortable. Each bed had a water bottle, extra blanket and enough cupboard space. At the centre of the house, is a to-die-for FULLY equipped kitchen, it has a big dining table and is surrounded by spacious kitchen top working space. It flows into the rest of the living space, with an open plan lounge area that flows into the outside deck. The lounge has the most comfortable leather couches with many beautiful and colourful cushions.
The biggest surprise was that this house has EVERYTHING you can imagine from the obvious to the 'they-have-thought-of-everything'. Here are some examples:
- Bathrooms: Towels (bath and swimming), slippers, soap, shampoo, bubble bath and crystals, toothbrushes, tissues and cream. The candles and lighter was a special touch.
- Lounge: TV, DSTV, tons of books and board games
- Braai Area: Braai, weber, deck chairs
- Kitchen: Good quality Tea, coffee (including filter coffee), sugar and enough cutlery for our use. There are also extras like cooler bags, gas lighters, candles and lanterns should you need them.
- Kitchen appliances included a stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, liquidizer, coffee machine and even a snackwich maker and waffle maker.
- There was also Red dot Wifi available on a prepaid basis.
Oh and the moms that joined us were enamoured by the child friendliness and thoughtfulness of the home-away-from-home. From the lockable pool fence and kid's arm-bands to the first-aid-kit and baby camp cot and high chair. Not to mention kiddie toothpaste in case you forgot to pack it.
From the moment we walked in we felt at home in the serene and calming energy of the place. We had no choice but to relax. We all had an amazing chilled weekend. The only bad thing about staying at this house was that we all felt so at home that none of us wanted to leave.
We will definitely go back! Can't wait!
